Local Highway Maintenance Transparency Report

Local Highway Maintenance Transparency Report 2025/26

In December 2024, the government announced the 2025 to 2026 highway maintenance funding allocations for all eligible highway authorities and mayoral combined authorities – this included additional funding announced by the Chancellor as part of the 2024 Budget.

The government has said that 25% of the additional funding for 2025 to 2026 will be contingent on local highway authorities demonstrating to government that they are complying with certain criteria aimed at driving best practice and continual improvement in highways maintenance practice.

As a result, the Department for Transport requires all local highways authorities to publish information about their highways maintenance activities to help local taxpayers see the difference that funding is making in their areas.

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council will receive an additional (£1,458,556.00) of funding for the 2025/26 financial year for local highways maintenance.

This transparency report is made in compliance with the grant conditions for the additional highway maintenance funding from the DfT and outlines how and where the funding will be spent.
