Latest Updates

The Maritime Corridor Improvement Scheme covers the area between Dunnings Bridge Road (A5036) and Ormskirk Road (A59), from Switch Island to Netherton Way (A5038). It will improve junctions and walking and cycling routes, to help people move about the area easier and safer.

The project will be delivered over several years, in three phases. Phase 1 will improve routes and junctions on Dunnings Bridge Road (A5036) and Netherton Way (A5038). Phases 2 and 3 will be done at a later date and cover Bridle Road, Park Lane, Heysham Road and Atlantic Park Drive.

Planned Construction

Works planned to start Monday 25th November 2024 (25/11/2024) lasting until end of October 2025.

How will this impact me?

During construction there will be several different footway and road closures at various times as the works progress. Unfortunately, there may be some delay to journey times as a result. Further details of these closures will be posted on this page as works progress, however a brief summary of the roads impacted are outlined below:

On-going

  • Atlantic Park Drive - Atlantic Park Drive will not be accessible from A5036 Dunnings Bridge Road for the duration of the works. Traffic wanting to access Atlantic Park will need to use Bridle Road, which will be opened to traffic during the works.
  • Dunnings Bridge Road and Netherton Way - There will be lane closures along Dunnings Bridge Road and Netherton Way to allow the work to take place but these will be kept to off peak times (9:30am-3.30pm), which should mean there is little disruption to traffic.

Upcoming

  • Dunnings Bridge Road - For the first week of March, there will be full night road closures in place between Netherton Way and Park Lane (9:30pm-5:30am).
  • We will need to have lane closures for a short period during peak times too but these will be kept to a minimum and we will let you know in advance (currently we expect this to happen in April 2025).

The Council recognise that a scheme of this nature and size may cause disruption for some and would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause you and will endeavour to complete these works as soon as practical.

Please check back once the work has started for more detailed information about lane closures.
