Sefton Council is proud to announce that the authority’s Youth Worker, Sue Logie, has been shortlisted in the Positive Role Model: LGBT category at the 2025 National Diversity Awards.
Outstanding work
Sue has been recognised for her outstanding work supporting Sefton’s LGBTQ+ young people and driving positive change in policy and inclusion across the Borough.
Created safe and inclusive spaces
Her efforts have created safe and inclusive spaces and delivered LGBTQ+ education in schools and to professionals. It has also resulted in the provision of vital mentoring for young people navigating identity and belonging, often at the most critical times in their lives.
A long-standing member of Sefton Council’s Corporate Equalities Group, Sue is also an active voice on panels and multi-agency groups, advocating not only for LGBTQ+ rights but for the voices of all young people.
Sefton Pride
Since 2015, she has been at the forefront of Sefton Council’s presence at Liverpool Pride, joined by young people’s groups, Council colleagues and local organisations. As part of this, Sue partnered with Merseyrail to organise the ‘Sefton Pride Train’ a unique element of the Pride march, which travelled through the Borough to Liverpool Pride.
Over the last three years, she has also played a central role in Sefton Pride, seeing young people, LGBTQ+ residents, and allies proudly leading the march.
Championing equality, diversity, and inclusion
This year’s National Diversity Awards attracted more than 85,000 nominations, with just 125 finalists selected across 10 categories. The Awards celebrate individuals and organisations championing equality, diversity, and inclusion across the UK.
Sue said:
“A couple of months ago I was nominated for a National Diversity Award, and I’ve now been shortlisted down to the final eight in the country. I’m incredibly honoured to be recognised alongside so many inspiring people.
“It means so much to know that the work I’m passionate about helping LGBTQ+ young people feel safe, supported, and valued is having an impact. I’m really looking forward to the ceremony in Liverpool this September and to celebrating the amazing work being done across the UK.”
Cllr Liz Dowd, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnership Engagement, said:
“Sue is a shining example of the difference one person can make in their community.
“Her passion and commitment to supporting young people and LGBTQ+ people in Sefton is evident in everything she does, and we are thrilled that her work has been recognised nationally.”

Now in its 14th year, the National Diversity Awards honour community heroes whose everyday efforts make society more inclusive. This year’s winners will be announced on Friday 19th September 2025 at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, hosted by broadcaster and diversity advocate Clare Balding CBE.
