ANY OF US CAN FOSTER…. is the message of a powerful new short film part funded by Sefton, Knowsley and Liverpool Council’s.

This must-see film ‘Any of us’ raises awareness of fostering and highlights that anyone has the potential to make a difference to a child’s life. 

The film follows the story of Ayesha, Neil and Marsha, who each show in their own way, how they have caring personalities fundamental to being a foster carer.

Their stories are all interwoven with Chloe’s as we see her journey into foster care.

A local launch to get support from businesses and leaders

The three local authorities brought businesses and leaders together to launch the film at FACT in Liverpool, with the hope of getting as much support as possible from across the city region.

Councillor Mhairi Doyle, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Care said:

“It’s been great to come together with Liverpool and Knowsley to part fund such a heartwarming film which will hopefully make people think about taking up this rewarding role.

“Communities, businesses and organisations can help by sharing messages, thinking about making their workplaces ‘Fostering Friendly’ so it’s easier to work and foster at the same time or even helping current foster families by offering discounts on days out or activities. Our children benefit when we all work together.”

National and regional shortage of carers

There are over 2,500 cared for children across the three Councils and with a national shortage of local carers, local authorities have no alternative but to look further afield, meaning some children are moved away from their school, friends, and familiar environments. Experiencing this can be traumatic for a child or young person.

Kim, who began fostering with Sefton Council two and a half years ago. Kim said:

“This film is a powerful reminder that any of us can make a difference in a child’s life. Fostering isn’t about being perfect, you just need to be willing to be there for a child. We don’t think we’re special, we are just normal people trying to look after children that need our care.

“For me and my family, fostering is the best thing we’ve ever done. I’d recommend it a hundred percent, seeing the kids grow and become more confident is the best feeling ever”.

People of all backgrounds are welcome to foster 

The Council welcomes people from all backgrounds regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality. Couples, single people, disabled people, and people from all cultures please apply. 

There is no upper age limit to becoming a foster carer, but you must be over 21 and be a UK citizen. 

Support, Training and Payment

Sefton Council is committed to offering support to our carers every step of the way. This includes specialist and peer support, training and an excellent financial package.
