Sefton Council is encouraging residents and businesses to make the most of a free water safety awareness session this weekend. 

Emergency services partners are holding the event at Crosby Marine Lake from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 12th September. 

Those who attend will learn about key water awareness messages that can be shared through others in a safe lakeside setting. Attendees will also be able to learn simple first aid skills that can save lives in an emergency.   

And there will be a chance can speak to representatives from Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue, HM Coastguard and St Johns Ambulance.  

Mark Shaw, Service Manager for Green Sefton, said: “Water safety awareness is critical in Sefton, where 22 miles of coastline and numerous open water locations mean there are many places where people swim.  

“That’s why the Council has joined local partners in promoting safety information throughout the summer, when many people have ignored advice and chosen to swim at unsupervised locations in response to sustained hot and dry weather. 

“The more people who can gain knowledge and skills that can save lives through sessions like this, the better.”  

The session serves as part of the #30Days30Ways campaign, in which emergency services share 30 days’ worth of straightforward actions that can help promote safety and resilience.
