Thousands of music lovers gathered in Bootle last weekend for the first Salt and Tar music weekender.

Revellers from as far afield as Tyneside and Scotland descended on Sefton for the music event, which ran from Friday 7^th to Sunday 9^th July.

Feedback

Sefton Council received lots of positive feedback from visitors about the event, and Salt and Tar as a venue.

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills said: “After all the planning and hard work that went into all three days, it was a thrill to be at Salt and Tar seeing so many people enjoying the space.

“We have aimed to capture as much feedback and data as possible, and our teams will carry out a full review of successes and lessons learned.

“This weekend, as well as May’s Comedy Weekender, has been a fantastic opportunity to listen and learn, and we want to shape future events and uses of this space in partnership with communities and stakeholders.

“The past two events have shown that Salt and Tar has real potential, and I feel very positive about its future. We are at the start of something incredibly exciting for the future of Bootle town centre.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved, and everyone who came to join the festivities in Bootle.”

Success

The weekend proved a great success, with over 6000 tickets sold across the three days.

Harry, who came from Kendall to see The Lathums on Friday said: “Being outside […] in the sun is lovely. I like how urban it is, in the middle of everything.”

Another fan added: “It’s awesome, it is lovely.”

While Saturday’s Red Rum Club set was somewhat wetter, local resident Mat was in equally high spirits: “Growing up in Bootle, I never thought I would see live bands here, and for [Sefton Council] to be transforming this space to create a cultural venue for everyone in this town is just fantastic, it’s amazing.”

Sunday saw local legends Cast close out the series of gigs, with Amy from Ormskirk observing: “It’s nice to have the different areas for food and music. I didn’t expect [Salt and Tar] to be so big!”
