Latest update on Ainsdale-on-Sea facilities

Sefton Council is looking forward to welcoming visitors back to Ainsdale-on-Sea through the spring and summer months.

Toilet refurbishments

Ainsdale coastal gateway remains open while work to refurbish the toilet block continues. Although this project began as simple toilet repair works, surveys revealed there was considerably more work needed on the overall building, including repairs to the roof.

These works which will result in new Changing Places and an accessible toilet, alongside refreshed men’s and women’s facilities, are due to be completed shortly and. In the meantime, there is temporary toilet provision in place for visitors to use.

Visitors are advised to take care as construction work is underway, which has reduced the pathway alongside the entrance. The roadway is open as usual.

Committed to developing and protecting

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing said: “The toilet works are nearing completion after an extremely challenging time within the construction sector, which has seen stretched supply chains and inflated prices.

“Ainsdale-On-Sea is an important location that the Council is committed to developing and protecting for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

“At the same time, we remain faithful to the highly sensitive natural environment and wildlife that rely on our coastline, which can mean developments to the site requiring close scrutiny to ensure the protection of wildlife and landscape.”

Beach Car Parking

On-beach car parking at Ainsdale beach will reopen early this year, from 29th March (Good Friday), for the convenience of the high numbers of visitors expected over the busy Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Beach car parking charges for 2024 are:

  • £8 per day for cars at Southport beach, reduced to £4 after 4pm
  • £10 per day for cars at Ainsdale beach, reduced to £5 after 4pm
  • £16 per day for horseboxes or minibuses
  • £37.50 season ticket for Sefton residents and those who drive an electric or hybrid vehicle
  • £75 season ticket for non-Sefton residents

The car parks operate a cashless payment system as a preference.

High tides

As with all on-beach car parks, there are times when capacity is reduced, or the car park is forced to close completely due to high tides. At Ainsdale, high tides are expected from Sunday 7th to Friday 12th April. Full closure is expected from Monday 8th to Thursday 11th with reduced capacity on the Sunday and Friday.

Negotiations are still ongoing with potential concessionaires to run food and drink outlets at Ainsdale and other locations along the coast and details of these will be announced when confirmed.
