Heartfelt Praise for Staff at Southport Crematorium

04 July 2025 2min read

Sefton Council is proud to share a touching compliment received by a member of the public, highlighting the extraordinary actions of our team at Southport Crematorium.

Deeply moved

During a funeral service in June, a member of the public suffered a medical episode after leaving the main building. Despite what was already a highly emotional day, they were deeply moved by the swift, calm and compassionate response from our staff.

Extra mile

Recognising the seriousness of the situation, a member of the Crematorium team immediately called 999, stayed with the person until paramedics arrived, and even kept their friend updated. Remarkably, they also ensured the individual’s car was looked after and offered to take them home themselves when hospital admission wasn’t required.

Doctors later confirmed that the person had suffered a mild stroke, and that the quick and appropriate actions of our staff had likely improved their chances of a full and speedy recovery.

Professional and caring individuals

They said:
“It is difficult to fully express my appreciation in words, but I felt it important to let you know how fortunate Sefton Council is to have such professional and caring individuals working at Southport Crematorium. All the staff I encountered were amazing, and I hope you are as proud of them as I believe you should be.”

Every day compassion

Cllr Harvey, Cabinet Member with responsibility for cemeteries and cremations, also praised the team, saying:
“This is a wonderful example of the compassion and professionalism our staff show every day, often in the most challenging circumstances. This was also reflected in the team’s recent gold award from the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM).

“We are incredibly proud of the team at Southport Crematorium for going above and beyond to care for members of the public when they needed it most.”

Making a difference

Thank you to everyone at Southport Crematorium for demonstrating the very best of Sefton’s values and for making such a difference when it mattered most.
