Update on flooding in Bootle

01 October 2024

Following Monday's heavy rain all the flood warnings for Sefton have now been removed.

Flooding in Bootle

On Monday areas including Crosby Road, Seaforth Road, Bulwer Street, Bowles Street and Knowsley Road were flooded causing lots of disruption to traffic and damage to people's homes.

We supported the fire service in the immediate response and were on the ground supporting residents who needed temporary accommodation for the night. We also opened St Leonard's as a rest centre for residents to access support.

Throughout Tuesday we have been in the area speaking to residents and helping with the clean up operation and we will continue to support anyone who has been affected by the flood water.

We are also working with colleagues at United Utilities to understand what caused the flooding.

If you have been affected and are in need of urgent support and haven't been spoken to by people on the ground please contact us.

Shelter and overnight accommodation

Councillor Liz Dowd, Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnership Engagement, said: “The heavy rainfall on Monday caused severe disruption in Seaforth and unfortunately flood water got into a number of homes.

“We supported the immediate response from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service in evacuating people from their homes and providing a place to shelter and overnight accommodation.

“We have been in the community speaking with residents to ensure they have the support they need as we continue the clean-up operation.

“We are working with United Utilities to ensure everyone impacted is supported and to understand what caused the flooding.

“If anyone has been affected by the flooding and needs support they should contact us straight away.”
