Paying your respects

Memorial Options

Sefton Cemeteries and Crematoria covering Thornton, Bootle, Birkdale, Ainsdale and Southport serve as places of quiet reflection, dignity and remembrance for the local community. Sefton Council Bereavement Services understand the importance of creating a lasting tribute to those we love and miss. Our range of memorial options offers families a meaningful way to reflect, remember, and celebrate a life well lived.

Plants and Ornaments

Ornaments, small plants, flowers and bulbs can be placed on a grave, a soil border may be cut immediately in front of the headstone. The border should be no wider than the headstone and protrude no more than 18” from the front edge of the memorial base. The soil border should be edged with artificial stone, natural stone or wood. This will protect any items placed within it from grass-cutting machinery. Note - plastic and wire edging is not suitable.

All plants and items placed outside of the soil border will be removed by the Council.

Grounds maintenance

The grounds are mown during the summer. Clippings are not collected.

Any soil border areas would need to be maintained by the grave owner.
